Survey on the timing of first marriage

The year and month of first marriage are asked in the following survey times.

●Cohort A

Married: 2nd, 12th, 17th

Unmarried: 12th and 17th

●Cohort B

Married: 5th, 12th, 17th

Unmarried: 12th and 17th

●Cohort C

Married: 11th, 12th, 17th

Unmarried: 12th and 17th

●Cohort D

Married: 16th, 17th

Unmarried: 17th

●Cohort E

Married: 21st

Unmarried: 21st

The variable names for the year and month of first marriage are Q1044A and Q1044B. However, for the 2nd survey (Cohort A first time) and the 5th survey (Cohort B first time), Q527A and Q527B are used. From the 11th survey onward, the respondents are asked to fill in either the Year and Month column or the Marriage Age column.

Cohorts A through D are asked multiple times in order to avoid omissions. The newer the survey, the more data we have, but also the more people who drop out of the survey. Please be careful.

Also, please note the difference in the number of times the survey is administered between married and unmarried respondents.
