The information provided here is current at the time of the survey when each question was asked. As a general rule, the questions were asked early in the respondent’s participation in the survey. Please note that for respondents who have experienced divorce or remarriage during the survey period, the information may indicate their relationship with a different spouse.

Marital status series provides information on marital changes during the period when the respondent participated in the survey. When combined with the information provided here, the respondent’s marital history (e.g., time of marriage and duration of marriage) can be calculated to recent years. However, it is difficult to reconstruct the complete marital history of a respondent who has been divorced and remarried multiple times before participating in the survey, because this information is not captured.
